P Money — Originators
P Money has risen through the grime ranks, dabbled with dub step, stepped in the ring with Ghetts and came out on top, and “Originators” is a new development aiming towards a more forward approach with the “club banger” “mainstream Hip Hop” style and P lyrically delivers with some very tight production. “Originators” is definitely something that is aimed at the clubs and the production definitely delivers and it’s a very radio friendly follow up to 2013’s “Round the Clock” for the release of the EP that is out on the 30th of November for Rinse. The video is good quality but there is nothing that really catches my imagination, the video is a day in the life of P Money and cuts from meeting girlfriends then going to the studio, then a blur of people on rooftops dancing and spinning records showing off these “P” T shirts P Money is merchandising, and then cuts to girls dancing in clubs, champagne flowing etc. The hook, production and the verses are tight but I don’t think this is going to make me rush to my I tunes and purchase the EP or make a top 20 UK chart appearance. However when Grime acts enter the mainstream I think its important they keep diverse so I think this is a good move for P Money, never the less I’m yet to be wowed by this release. This for me is a solid three stars, borderline pop music, however it’s nice to hear P Money mention some “Originators” in the lyrics, but to me this track and video is far from an original masterpiece from back in the day.
