Again this isn’t classic MethodMan yet it’s still good, Methodman releases another track form the album Meth Lab.
"The Purple Tape" follows the previous feature released by Methodman "Straight Gutta" and features some of MethodMan’s fellow WU Tang Clan members this time including Reakwon, Inspector Deck and MethodMan’s son Reakwon yes Reakwon on the same song as Reakwon, kind of confusing, yet MethodMans son rapping! MethodMan follows the last record, this track goes hard on the ear, and sounds very WU Tang like and is a refrenceing back to Reakwon and Ghostface Killah's Album "Only Built for Cuban Linx" that was known otherwise as "The Purple Tape".It's difficult to compare this to that record, as "Only Built for cuban linx" is known as a one of those classic albums. Meths verse is slick and his rhymes are as you would expect, but for me on this track ‘Reakwon’ the original one’s verse, really stands out and takes me back to those WU TANG Classics and sets up Inspector Deck’s Verse brilliantly. The Beat is very militant and the hook is clever referencing "WU TANG is for the children" from the legend that was Ol Dirty Bastard hence MethodMan’s son on the Hook. It would have been interesting to have heard ‘Reakwon’ Meth’s son spit a verse but overall I has ok with the three verses from legends of the Rap game. Happier with this one yet still " The Purple Tape" lacked some depth again, and maybe the beat could have been dirtier and a tiny bit faster, but its raw lyrics, are what the theme of this album seems to be, and I’m ok with that, even if it plays a bit like a hot mix tape track. "The Purple Tape" is on The "Meth Lab" album via Hanz On Music/Tommy Boy Records and gets a good three stars.
