Star Wars The Force Awakens Review
Star Wars The Force Awakens Review By Ian Brown
Itching to watch this movie for about two years or so many fans expectations of Star Wars is above and beyond the normal. Encouraging myself to watch this movie with a “movie head” instead of a “Star Wars fan boy” attitude was key to enjoying this film as with most star wars fans I’ve been littered with leaks for this movie and its difficult to ignore the spoilers, as Star Wars fans just want to know the secrets to Star Wars so badly. Sitting down to watch this movie was great fun so much expectation yet I was prepared for a lengthy epic.
The lights went down and the movie came on in glorious 3D, which is new for some Star Wars fans. I was I so impressed with this film and its fast pace and brilliantly nostalgic moments whilst keeping an innocence that was largely what made some of the original series so magical.
The story focuses around the small ball droid BB-8 that is an amazing feat of technology and belongs to Poe Dameron played by Oscar Isac. BB-8 is as cute and innocent as anticipated and looked and moved incredibly well in the desert. This instantly brought back a mirror of the original series where the focus concentrated on the two droids C3PO and R2D2. The plot this time aims towards the droid and the girl or Rey and the hunt for Luke Skywalker, Both Snoke and Leia are in search of Luke Skywalker played by Mark Hamill.
The main characters both Finn played by John Boyega a [Storm Trooper] and Rey played by Daisy Ridley [a Scavenger] are quickly intertwined in the galactic warfare going on between the Rebel Alliance led by General Leia Organa played by Carrie Fisher and the First Order Led by Supreme Leader Snoke played by Andy Serkis. Quickly action commences and big characters are introduced, including the main antagonist Kylo Ren played by Adam Driver and Han Solo reprising his role as Harrison Ford who’s family connection connect the original trilogy to this new franchise. Chewbacca of course kicks ass and Lupita Nyong’o is good as Maz Knata the pirate. There are appearances of the lovable C3PO and R2D2 but since Luke has gone missing R2D2 has been dormant.
The Film moves at a nice pace and there are no long boring senate meetings like in the Prequels, overall a good balance of dialogue and action that is very sentimental towards the original sires.
The Most eye capturing moments where the extremely detailed space battles and the alien characters throughout, mixing both puppets and costume actors with CGI. The story itself ends with plenty of unanswered questions like are Rey and Finn going to get it on ? Who the hell is Snoke? And is Rey related to Kylo Ren? And what happened to Kylo Ren? Did he die or was he Darth Vader style injured? Who knows it just leaves you wanting more. This tactic by JJ Abrams to drip feed us with info was wise but it was such a shame the script leaked as some of the big spoilers where true, but it still worked for me as I was left on tender hooks.
